In morning bring beans to slow boil, add 1/2 tsp. soda slowly. Stir and boil 2 to 3 minutes. Strain into heated crock.
Add to crock and heat:
After beans are added fill crock to 1 inch from top with boiling water. Cover. After 4 or 5 hours fill again with boiling water. Bake 6 to 8 hours at 275F.
