Cook sugar, syrup and water until it spins a heavy thread. Add butter, peanuts and salt, stirring constantly until nuts begin to brown and whole mass begins to brown. Remove from stove. Add soda, vanilla and stir well. Pour immediately onto 2 well greased cookie sheets. Cool near open window.
