These are my favorite cooking resources for recipes, substitutions, menu ideas, and other culinary information.
Taste of Home ~ This bimonthly magazine provides down-home, practical, home-style recipes plus menus, contests, and articles. Also includes "Clip & Keep" recipe cards to cut out and store in a recipe box. And no advertising!
Cook's Illustrated ~ Each monthly issue of this magazine consists of a series of in-depth articles which include cooking tips, reviews, and recipes. Many of the recipes are created after extensive testing to come up with the best combination of ingredients (and measurements of each) to create what they consider to be "The best" recipe. The only thing missing is advertisements, so the pages are full of just good information. If you are a cook who wants to know "the best" way to cook everything, this is the one for you.
We have a lot of cookbooks, but these are the ones we use the most. Each of the links below will take you to the book at Amazon.com. If the book is out-of-print, Amazon.com offers used copies in good condition from Amazon Marketplace Sellers.
Can't find an old classic or out-of-print cookbook? Jessica's Biscuit has a huge inventory of more than 8000 cookbooks at discount prices (up to 75% off) on everything from best-sellers to out-of-print classics. If they don't carry it, they promise to go out of their way to find it for you.
These are the web sites I go to for recipes, cooking tips, and information about ingredients, measurements, substitutions, etc. -- listed in no particular order. They all have something great to offer. In addition to the recipes, don't miss the various charts they provide with substitutions, conversions, cooking terms, etc.
That Home Site! ~ The Cooking and recipe exchange forums have become my first go-to place for great recipes, cooking and entertaining tips, and other cooking-related information. Request a recipe or cooking tip, or share one of your own. I've learned a lot from the folks there who really know how to cook! Plus it's a friendly and safe on-line community. Be sure to visit the other forums while you're there.
Joyofbaking.com ~ More free recipes and other information including substitutions, conversions, and ingredient descriptions.
CooksRecipes.com ~ A free source for recipes and other information including charts, tips, articles and how-to's, a cooking dictionary, forums, a directory of links to other cooking sites, plus links to shop for cooking and other food-related items. A very useful and well-organized site created and maintained by Hope Pryor.
The Cook's Thesaurus ~ A cooking encyclopedia covering thousands of ingredients and cooking tools.  Categories include all kinds of foods, ingredients, equipment, and such things as food wrappers, edible flowers and food thickeners -- with pictures, pronunciations, substitutions, descriptions, and more.
Robbie's Kitchen ~ Lots of recipes, culinary tips, charts, conversions, substitutions, and other household tips.
Epicurious.com ~ Epicurious describes itself as "The World's Greatest Recipe Collection". The recipe database includes many recipes from Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazines, plus menu ideas, cooking how-to's and other advice, and forums -- including my favorite, Gail's Recipe Swap which includes a huge collection of thousands of archived recipes shared by other readers (the archive includes a search engine).
Allrecipes.com ~ Just as the name suggests, you will probably find any recipe here, all well-organized by category which includes a Top 10 list, Recipe of the Day, alphabetical listing, recipe requests and more. Also includes cooking basics, a recipe box, coupons, and more.
Favorite Swapizen Recipes ~ A special collection of recipes, special requests, cooking and baking techniques, personal pages and favorite recipe sites contributed by readers at Gail's Recipe Swap. Includes my very own Turkey Tater-Tot Casserole (scroll down the list to the Poultry category)!
RecipeSource ~ The extensive recipe collection previously known as SOAR: The Searchable Online Archive of Recipes. Conveniently organized by ethnic cuisine or by type of dish.
Saucy Sally's Site ~ This is a personal web site maintained by Sally Lilley who shares her own family's favorite recipes. I've tried some of them which Sally graciously allowed me to include in our Family Recipe Box (see Jai Lai Butter and Green Chili and Cheese Cornbread).
Dorothy Lane Market Recipe Archives ~ A nice collection of recipes at the web site of Dorothy Lane Markets, a small chain of independent grocery stores in Ohio (USA).
Betty Crocker ~ The web site of the famous cookbook. Recipes, entertaining tips and menus, charts, and more.
Recipezaar ~ Where the recipes are! Over 37,000 recipes and growing.
1st Traveler's Choice Internet Cookbook ~ Over 3000 recipes from Innkeepers, Chefs and Culinary Professionals.
Innkeeper Recipes and Cookbooks ~ From Bed & Breakfast Inns ONLINE, this site offers many recipes and links to recipes collections of innkeepers.
Recipe Goldmine ~ Thousands of recipes plus charts, tips and techniques, a special section for BBQ grilling, a glossary, kitchen charts, and more.
What's Cooking America ~ Got a cooking question? Want to know how to make a roux? Wonder how many appetizers to make for a party, how to dry and store herbs, freezing cookie dough, everything about chocolate, and many other culinary secrets? You will probably find it here at the website of Linda Stradley, author of the cookbook What's Cooking America. Her site also includes recipes, menus, food presentation ideas, a culinary dictionary, and much more.
AllHomemadeCookies.com ~ Homemade cookie recipes including bars, cutout, cookies in a jar, no-bakes, etc. Also includes cookie tips and articles.
