Planted: Fall 1999 in a pot, from which it self-sowed around the yard and in other pots (but not invasively so)
Conditions: Full sun in amended clay soil.
Other comments: Very pleasing black licorice scent (foliage) makes this a nice plant for the herb garden or along a sunny path. Good as a vertical accent with shorter plants at the base, in middle or back of sunny border or in the middle of an herb pot. Birds like it for the seeds; also attractive to hummingbirds. Cut back by about 1/3 after first flush of bloom; plant will bush out and soon bloom again. Can also be tip-pinched starting in spring to produce a bushier plant (though I have not done this... I let ours grow tall).
