Type of plant: Perennial (tender), usually grown as annual
Height: About 5-6 inches
Width: At least 2 feet; may spread further if not cut back in spring but it is not invasive.
Bloom color: Sky blue with small white centers
Bloom time: Good continuous bloomer from at least March through at least October.
Scent: None.
Sun/shade: Full sun
Moisture: Quite drought tolerant, even in a pot. Do not over-water, especially if growing in less than full sun (see comments). Keep on the dry side.
Pruning: In early spring after last frost. Cut back each stem to new growth near the bottom of the plant.
Problems: None so far.
Purchased: 2000 from a local nursery
Planted: About 2000 in a pot.
Conditions: Growing in all-day sun in a pot.
Other comments: Very pretty sky-blue, nickle-sized blooms with bright white centers. Greyish-green foliage that trails or hangs over edge of a pot makes this a good candidate for a container or hanging basket. Blooms heavily during the warmer months (here, that's early spring to fall) with a few scattered blooms in cooler months. Cuttings root easily in water or in the ground. This seems to be a very drought-tolerant plant that likes a very sunny spot and not too much water. (We grew one under a deciduous tree that was regularly watered by lawn sprinklers; it rotted due to over-watering.) By the end of winter, it looks somewhat ragged from the colder temperatures and needs cutting back to freshen up its appearance. Otherwise, for the remainder of the year it looks good all the time and needs little care.
