Height: Too soon to tell; it is about 2 feet tall in April 2003 after being planted in November 2002.
Width: Too soon to tell; it is about 2 feet wide in April 2003 after being planted in November 2002.
Bloom color: Violet-purple with white markings. The leaves are silvery-green on fuzzy white stems.
Bloom time: Buds starting to open mid-April; last bloom is in early winter.
Scent: Foliage has a faint herby scent.
Sun/shade: Full sun
Moisture: Moderate water. Since it was planted in November 2002, it was watered mostly by the winter and spring rains we have had this year (2003). I'll see how much water it will need in summer.
Pruning: So far, just deadhead faded blooms and cut off unattractive stems in late winter.
Conditions: Planted in full sun in amended clay soil.
Other comments: The foliage alone is attractive, even without any blooms. The fuzzy white stems and silvery foliage light up the plant from a distance (look in the very top left corner). The fuzzy violet-purple blooms are beautiful as well and complete the picture. Read about its history and see a picture at San Marcos Growers.
